We can learn a lot by looking at the social media strategies of other companies. At the moment, two companies stand out to me as sources of inspiration: Apple+ and Duolingo. Apple+ has taken a unique approach to social media for their Severance series. Instead of spreading email data widely across multiple platforms, they focus almost entirely on LinkedIn. Another company that stands out is Duolingo. They were already known for their brutal social media strategy, but have recently taken it to the next level.
What is particularly interesting is that
A both companies do not focus directly on their product in their social media strategy, but on creating value. This actually leads to a lot of word-of-mouth advertising. As we know, that is still the most effective form of marketing.media strategies
I would like to take you through their strategies. Then I will list what we can learn from this and how you can apply this to your own social media.
The Power of Community: Duolingo
The community around Duolingo started when people started making jokes how does that work in practice? online about the, perhaps threatening, notifications you get when you don’t use the app for a while. Duolingo played on this cleverly. At the time on Twitter (now X ed.). They actively participated in the joke and laid it on extra thick: their notifications were really threatening.
Duolingo tweets threats if you don’t use their app.
The Twitter community they built up in this way, they then cleverly translated to other social media marketing list platforms. On Instagram and TikTok they mainly use memes with their mascot, Duo. Duo has now acquired a threatening and highly flammable character, but is nevertheless loved on the internet.
