How are we doing with our social media use in the Netherlands? Just like last year, the use of TikTok and Instagram, and the use of LinkedIn, are growing the most. X (Twitter) seems to be making a comeback and the success of Threads seems very short-lived. Furthermore, there is special attention for the effect of social media on our mental well-being. This and more comes from the social media research for 2024.

The National Social Media Survey is the largest trend survey into the use and expectations of social media in the Netherlands, conducted by Newcom Research (source: Newcom.nl ). This year, the survey was conducted for the 14th time, with 7,159 participants aged 15 and over.

In this article, we share the most striking results from this social media research with you. Which platforms are used most and with what phone number database  frequency? And what do respondents think of the effect of social media on our mental well-being?

Almost 2 hours a day on social media

Just like every year, we first look at the use of social media in minutes per day. In the graph below you can see differences per age category compared to last year. In particular, Dutch people under 40 have become even more active.

The largest increase can be seen in the age group 15 to 19 years and 20 to 39 years, both with 7 minutes. The use of 65+ has decreased by 5 australia database directory minutes. In total we spend an average of 115 minutes per day (almost 2 hours) on the use of social media, one minute more than last year.

Also interesting: the number of social media users aged 15 and over has grown from 14.1 million to 14.3 million users.

More used platforms in the 20 to 39 age group
In terms of the number of platforms used, the group between 20 and 29 years stands out. The graph shows an increase  this includes things like age, gender of 0.4. The groups 15 to 19 years, 40 to 64 years and 80 years or older use the same number of social media platforms as the year before, in the group 65 to 79 years this has even decreased by 0.1 (from 3.1 to 3 platforms).
